Notes
As Alan Crawford notes in C.R. Ashbee: Architect, Designer & Romantic Socialist (New Haven & London, 1985), so central is this ubiquitous design to Ashbee’s reputation that ‘it seems impertinent to attribute [it] to anyone else.’ (p. 337). But such evidence that survives points to Arthur Tuckey, under whose name this pattern was exhibited at the Arts & Crafts Exibition Society exhibition in 1903.
Examples of the single ‘loop-handled dish’ exist in several public collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh.
