Notes
Dresser’s design for the Aquarium Flower Pot was patented in 1872. Wedgwood’s own record for the registration, no. 267060, October 11, 1872, is inscribed in ink ‘Aquariam [sic] Flower Pot / Proprietors Josiah Wedgwood & Sons / Etruria / Stoke on Trent’; it is now in the collection of the V&A Wedgwood Collection.
Another Aquarium Flower Pot, with similar colours, is in the collection of the Minneapolis Museum of Art (90.116).
For an example with a predominantly pink ground, on a stand, see Gaye Blake-Roberts, ‘The Innovation and Artistry of Wedgwood Majolica”, in Susan Weber (ed.), Majolica Mania: Transatlantic Pottery in England and the United States 1850-1915, II, Bard Graduate Center, et al., 2021, fig. 14.27.
