Note
Around 1909, the Biddulphs commissioned the Arts and Crafts architect Ernest Barnsley to design Rodmarton Manor. Some £5000 a year was to be devoted to the project, the house being intended not only as a country house but also a focal point in the village and a centre for communal activity. In part this activity was directed to furnishing and decorating the house. Work continued throughout the 1920s
In April 1926 Margaret Biddulph was invoiced for a ‘cedar chest of drawers’ at a cost of £15. 10s; this may correspond with the present example. We are grateful to Peter Hartley for this information.
