Notes
Some sources give the name James Capel as the maker of the Waterhouse furniture for Blackmoor House; see, for example, V&A website entry for W.41-1975. But it seems more likely that the present chair was made by Henry Capel of Great Titchfield Street, London; artistic furniture maker and upholsterer; see https://bifmo.furniturehistorysociety.org/entry/capel-henry-1866-1882.
In Clive and Jane Wainwright Collection (op. cit.), the present hall seat is, probably erroneously, ascribed to James Capel.
Thanks to Clarissa Ward for drawing our attention to the BIFMO entry.
