Notes
John Bonython notes on a card pinned to the upper drawer: ‘High Victorian Oak Whatnot. In the style of Bruce Talbert. cf (also) the desk at Tyntesfield Illustrated in Elizabeth Aslin’s Nineteenth Century English Furniture. 1962.’
There are several examples of furniture by Collier & Plucknett at Tyntesfield (now a property belonging to the National Trust). Of particular relevance is a chest of drawers (NT 10616), which is clearly by the same hand as our étagère: https://www.nationaltrustcollections.org.uk/object/10616.
